What changed

  • Brought charger management into a shared tabbed hub.
  • Reorganised booking around location, date and charging time.
  • Built reusable interface components and refined the navigation.

Context

Go Zero’s mobile app served people finding somewhere to charge as well as those managing a home charger. The experience had grown across separate screens for booking, schedules, usage and earnings. The work joined interface design with changes to how those tasks fitted together.

My remit

I redesigned and implemented key parts of the Flutter app, covering charger discovery, booking and the home-charger experience. That meant changing the navigation and interaction patterns as well as building the components behind them.

Decisions and delivery

  • Brought Status, Schedule, Trends, Earn and Solar into a shared Charger Hub, then connected existing drawer links and app routes to the relevant tabs.
  • Reorganised booking around Where, When and How Long, with location and date cards, daytime and overnight choices, and a summary alongside the search action.
  • Added search, filtering and sorting within charger results, with favourites and recent chargers available through the location picker.
  • Built reusable Flutter components and theme-aware navigation and controls for light and dark appearances.
  • Refined the hub’s opening behaviour after the initial implementation, so returning to Status did not unexpectedly restore a different tab.

Outcome

The work gave charger management a shared home and made the booking choices explicit within one flow. Design and implementation developed together, including the routing and state changes needed to connect the new screens to the existing product.
